The settlement of Oxford County, Ontario, Canada began before it's name was chosen and it's boundaries established. In the year 1800, this area was finally formed and known as "Oxford". The first cemeteries were opened circa 1830.

This free and searchable database, now maintained by Oxford County Library, contains the 102 cemeteries found in Oxford County. Under each respective township are listed the cemeteries found within it's borders. To find the headstone photographs, click on a cemetery.

The following is a message from the gentleman who worked tirelessly to photograph and index these cemeteries:

After doing research for my own family tree, I realized it would be nice if people had a webpage to show them where their relatives may be buried in Oxford County. After over 5 years of spending hours travelling throughout Oxford County and photographing the headstones and publishing the webpage, I hope that my work has enabled others in their own family tree search. Dave

To find missing and weather-beaten headstones, please contact Oxford County Library by email localhistory@ocl.net for assistance with headstone transcripts. These transcripts were originally prepared by Oxford County Branch of Ontario Ancestors and can also be accessed by contacting the resource centre.
